Downloadable products as items of grouped products
Hi,
first of all thanks for this great plugin. But there is one thing
that I would like to see handled differently in the future.
Downloadable products should also have the option to choose parent product. This would be very helpful for audio files, i.e. - in cases when you need to sell separate songs from a music album (album would be a Grouped product). In this case, quantity of each downloadable audio item added to cart should always stay 1 with no possibility to alter it, as there really is no point in adding more than 1 identical song item to shopping cart.
If you could implement this, I would ditch Cart66 Lite on my client's site, because your plugin is much better in every other aspect and this is the only major thing that's preventing me to switch.
Thanks

So basically you want to remove the quantity selector on grouped products (preset at 1) and have to option to add all grouped products to the cart in one click? (while retaining the ability to purchase tracks individually).
It's definitely something we could do but I see it as more of a bespoke solution and not really what grouped products are intended for.
If you're interested in hiring us to develop the functionality please contact us.

Thanks for your answer.
After reading description about Grouped products in documentation I now realize it's true purpose, so what we require would indeed have to be custom made. I'm not sure that my client's current budget would allow this at the moment, so we will have to stick with the current plugin.
However, I will be keeping an eye on your plugin, because I think it has great potential :)
I did notice one more thing. Someone probably already reported this, but shipping value gets calculated and added to total value of order even if only downloadable products are in cart.

Thanks for reporting, I'll add this to our bug tracker :-)

In version .9.9 I note that it is possible to add downloads to groups, but it does not appear to do anything. The downloads do not appear as available for selection under the group. I was hoping it would enable putting downloads related to one specific CD for instance under one group to categorize them better in the listing and reduce the initial listing size... but not a big deal.

I have a similar problem.
I'm trying to create a group product which is the album, then add downloadable items within that group for each single and the album as a whole. For some reason the individual items won't show within the group?
Any help would be great.

Downloadable items in groups haven't been implemented yet. This feature is still missing. We should have it sometime in November though, I suspect.

any further developments on this? I think tgis feature is a no-brainer for selling music ... a user could choose to either buy the whole mp3 album, a selection of tracks and the physical product ... great product otherwise but until tius is impllemented won;t be able to use it ... thanks!

I'm very interested in grouping individual audio tracks for individual purchase or album purchase too.
Also I'm trying to find a way of associating an audio player per track so that the puchaser can listen to a sample. If Jigoshop could reconise shortcodes then a simple player such as Haiku Player could perhaps be added in the attribute section. When it is added in the main description section then it is separated from the product when displayed in the shop... plus it looks very clunky because it has it's own box around it saying Description.
Maybe there is a way of doing this that I haven't found yet... If so then please let me know.
I mentioned the Haiku Player because it will play on an i-phone... Which brings me to my next point, that I need to design the whole shop so that it works smoothly on a smartphone as well as a normal computer. Not a simple task. I'm using the Weaver II Pro theme, but there is a compatibility issue so I'm having to install it on a basic theme like twenty11, and that's not particularly mobile friendly.
If there are any tutorials or videos on any of this then please point me in the right direction. Thanks for this excellent plug-in... being able to limit product downloads is the main reason that I'm trying to get this to work.

Looks nice on the computer but unfortunately it doesn't suit a cellphone and the audio won't play on my i-phone. This is probably due to the limitations of flash on the i-phone. I tried tried two different audio players before I found one which worked... If I'm correct in saying the Haiku Player is based on HTML5 which seems to be i-phone friendly.
Thanks for the example... Any more suggestions - especially for tutorials of how to implement the audio would be most welcome, and of course having a site which is slick on a mobile device is essential. The times are changing where most internet activity is being done from phones rather than computers, so we must move with the times to stay ahead of the game.

#ndaustin Thanks for the info regarding my site. Actually I think the issue with the audio was actually the mobile plugin I was using. I switched it to WPTouch and now I think everything works fine. I'm using MP3-jPlayer for my audio.

Thanks nbruley for the demo of how you do things. Just to clarify, do you have each track as a separate product and then ANOTHER product for the whole album? Did you have to manually set up the links to individual tracks that are on the download page?
I am developing a shop for a customer who is selling MP3s. He wants to have album tracks available individually but also offer a discounted price for the whole album (eg 15 tracks @ £0.99 or whole album @ £7.99).
When I started developing the site using Jigoshop, I was under the impression that grouped products were the answer but I now realise that they cannot have a price. Are "prices for grouped products" something that is likely to show up in the core release any time soon? If not, can anyone suggest a plugin/hack/workflow to handle grouped product sales in a better way?
Many thanks.

@Trippnology Yes, I have each track as a separate MP3 product, and each download group as a separate MP3 Zip file download product. I added the links manually to the tables (the previews are just that, only partial previews) but you could use Excel to speed up the process.
I think there might have been some work going on re grouped products but not sure what the status is on that.

Thanks for clearing that up nbruley. It seems like a lot of work to have to copy/paste 15 or so links to create a bundle for every album. It would be so much easier to make a grouped product and give it a price.
Can any staff give us an update on the current status of grouped products having a price please?
