Can I use Jigoshop as a product catalogue only?
Hi there,
Jigoshop has been recommended by mysitemyway which is what I use to
build sites. My question: Will I be able to use Jigoshop as a
product catalogue that shows full product info including prices but
does not allow "add to cart" or actual payments.
If you are wondering why: One of my clients is in an industry where they cannot sell their shop products online due to supplier agreements but they would like people to be able to look at products online.

Yes of course! I'm developing an extension right now that will let you fully customize all aspects of Jigoshop to turn it into a catalog. What's your timeline as the extension isn't released yet?

Thank you so much for the quick reply Matt. We are starting in July but if the extension is released by Aug/September that could work. Do you think that is do-able? Otherwise I can push things back a bit since the client is not in a major rush as they still have their old site up. When do you expect it to be released?

I expect it to release within a couple weeks actually, so no worries then!

Hi Matt, how is it going with the extension? Any specific dates for release yet? :)

Last question before I get the catalog : I have an excel or comma seperated file with the product info in, but I am not sure I will be able to import this into Jigoshop because the only post I found related to it referred me to this link which doesnt work anymore and when I manually go to "Extend" in the menu under "Import/Export" it is not there.
This is the post I found:
"Hey all, We've released a CSV Importer on Jigoshop.com, check it out!
http://jigoshop.com/extend/jigoshop-product-importer-deluxe/ " ?
Thank you.

Hi Nathalie, this extension is under evaluation, there are some users
complaints on it so it is temporarily taken off the site.

Thank you for the quick response :) Any idea when the importer will be updated? If I manually have to load a few hundred products it will make the project too expensive.

Extension author didn't give any deadlines, but he and his team is working
on this extension technical improvement, I hope for the best and hopefully
they will do it as fast as they can.
I know that manual work is not so "welcomed", but we will have to be
patient, if automatic is desired :-)

Hi,
I too am very interested in this catalog deluxe product. I noticed the link you provided is still active and therefore is still on sale. Does that mean it works okay now?
Also I would like to know if it is possible to have instead of "add to cart", "add to quote". Where products and their quantities will be added to a list like the shopping cart excluding prices. Then instead of "checkout", we have "submit for quote" and then an email will be sent to the merchant with the list of products.
I'm actually looking for a solution that can do this..... can catalog deluxe do this?
Thanks.

Hi,
Yes you can do all of that except for the checkout text.
What made you think there ever was an issue with the plugin?
Cheers

Hi Matt,
Thanks for responding.
I was going through this thread and the support staff Ivica said this:
"Hi Nathalie, this extension is under evaluation, there are some users
complaints on it so it is temporarily taken off the site."
Because of the comment above I thought the plugin wasn't ready.
When you say all can be done except for the checkout text, do you mean once
all items are in the shopping cart, the user will still need to click on
"checkout"? The word "checkout" cannot be changed right?
If yes, what happens next? How would the shopping cart list be transformed
to "send for quote" as email to the merchant?
I look forward to your response.
Thanks again.

Ivica was responding to Nathalie about a different extension.
You can attempt to manually change the checkout text either by modifying the core file, or using a translation of your own:

Thank you for responding quickly.
How about the sending of email capability? Usually when one "checks out" it
takes them to the payment gateway. They put in their personal info and make
payment. A notification is then received of their purchase in an email. I
expect the merchant too gets a similar email.
In my case, since there is no payment, what I would like is after checkout,
they put in personal info in a form with no payment information and then
they click on something like "request for quote" and then emails are sent
to the merchant and user.
Can I set this up easily with catalog deluxe?
I apologize in advance if I seem like a pain.... I just want to make sure
it does what I hope it does before I pay for it.
Thanks.

No, you can not.
