Download link to go to page instead of downloadable item?
I have a client who is selling downloadable products, but also wants to offer an online quiz to be for purchase as well. I created the quiz and tried linking that page in the download field, but that didn't work.
Do you have any thoughts on how I could offer an online quiz for purchase using Jigoshop? The custom download link that is created for downloads would be ideal for this quiz page.
Thanks,
Jim

Downloadable products are for binary file transfers with only a few specific file name extensions allowed.
There is the 'virtual' product type and it's defined use is for things like services offered and while it sounds like a good fit, there really isn't much to accommodate your question in terms of providing a place to enter a link.
Could a link field be added to a Virtual product or additions made to the Downloadable product? Yes, it could and I can add it to the list of requests, it just wouldn't be very high up on it at the moment.

Would very much like to see this function as well. We are offering an online course and need to provide customers access to a page and not a downloadable product. Thanks for your consideration in moving this up on your list of requests.

Hi Steve! Thank you for your interest, it is noted/reported. BTW, future
possible development depends on how many users would be interested in this
function.

I am also interested in this feature. We are selling online courses and would much prefer sending them to training hosted on a streaming media server rather than having them download the large audio/video files. We offer lifetime updates on the training, and this would simplify things immensely. We'd only have to update the hosted video and everyone would have access to the new content. As it is, each customer will have to come back and download updates.

I am interested as well, my client doesn't want to give away the downloadable file so to speak, they want to host it on a hidden page and allow people to watch it. Let's get it done Jigoshop!

I counted your votes guys, thx for inputs... now it's up to developers.
This option will be in Jigoshop, but please don't ask us when as deadlines
are still not set up due to other higher priorities. Thx for understanding!

WOW amazing response ivica, ty. IMO there is a HUGE use case for this, I can't afford to wait and am having my guy take a look to see if he can do it, hope you guys beat me to it!

If you would be faster then Jigoshop developers (and I believe you will in
current situation :-)) and if interested, maybe your code can be afterwards
be incorporated in Jigoshop or be in the form of extension? In either case,
you could then talk to Jigoshop Management for further possible steps on
this topic... thx!

The lack of this feature will probably lead me to leave Jigoshop in the future. I'm just starting out, but once I have more cashflow I'll need to switch to one of the third party services that offer this type of feature. Since the majority of my products will be video workshops, it's not just a want - it's a must have!

I fully understand you, but wait a little bit more (if you can) to see how
this function is developing... Thx for info.

Got the hack going on my site, it didn't take my guy too long. Basically, he made it so I can enter a URL instead of a file url without getting an error. Even have the download limit maintained. Will try to contact jigoshop management shortly, if anyone wants it solved short term, email me at [email blocked].

I need this as well to sell training, and even want to find a way disable quantity when someone purchases a training session eg. 1 August, 1 September, 1 October. These are once off courses, so most users would simply pick one session and purchase that one. Hoping to see this training/courses focused options become a part of Jigoshop sooner rather than later. Because of this, I'm thinking about checking out Wordpress E-commerce plugin to see what it offers too. There has to be a way to do this relatively easy task.

Has this issue been resolved with 1.3?
I have setup 1.3.1 running on WP 3.4.1 and nothing else and I can see downloadable & virtual as product types but these both offer the same functionality
A "File" tab appears for both & with both I can upload/link to a file but not with a url
Is this possible yet?
Cheers
Andy

One of the support guys gave me the answer. For some crazy reason, if you use the Google URL shortener on the url and put the shortened URL in the file box, this will work. I have no idea why it works, but it did!

Hi Kelly
Thanks for the quick response
I have tried this but I just get sent a link like this when the order is processed whether it's downloadable or virtual
http://domain.com?email=bob%40domain.com&order=order_5034d46f36...
So when I click that link the site can't find the page as there is no download file there
Basically we're trying to allow people to pay to get access to a video on a secure page of the site
Thanks for your help
Cheers
Andy

When I put the Google shortened URL into the field where the downloadable
file normally goes, then save the product, it works for me. The link that
is sent in the confirmation email takes me directly to the page where my
video is embedded. I'm using Vimeo for the video.
Here is the actual response they posted for me:
Set it as downloadable and make the download path start with http:// ,
they'll be redirected there on purchase. (this didn't work for me)
If that doesn't work, try shorting your URL first with http://goo.gl and
having that the download path. (this did work)

any update on placing url in the file field? or making a space to place it in the virtual product type>>>???
highly requested and needed... the shorten url with google does work but 150 products with the subscription content plugin (i paid for 69.99) I feel like I should get a REAL solution!

I had to change my path from http://www.mydomain.... to just http://mydomain.... for this to work. It would have been nice if it's more intuitive in the future but it does work.
