USPS Plugin and shipping charges

Many of my products are very small and often ship in a padded mailer. I tested the shopping cart and shipping calculator today to see how the shipping charges are calculated and I'm a bit dismayed.

Putting in my most common seller (weighs 1oz, dimensions 1 x .5 x .25 INCHES), and it wanted to charge $6.95 for first class us postal shipping. Normally I pay about $1.64 to mail one of these. Now I don't know if there is an issue with the plug in dealing with items less than 1 pound or dimensions of less than 1 inch, but there must be a way to correct this.

Also, do not see an option to use the US Postal flat rate mailers. Is there a way to incorporate this into the shop? I really just use flat rate priority mailers for shipping outside the USA, and use padded mailers for inside the USA.

Yes, it appears definitly to be a limitation in the plugin. I'll have to write logic to handle envelope's rather than packages. I believe that's what the difference in price is right now.

What's strange is that I can use the USPS APC at their post offices and I have to select "package" for these padded generic mailers (because they are over 1/4" thick), but using packages in the plugin seems to be coming up with different pricing.

If there is a way to correct that, and a way to offer shipping via the various US Postal flat rate boxes (small medium and large) that would be excellent!

there's definitely a way.. It was pretty buggy when trying to code for it, and so I had left that out on purpose.

Please give me the shipping options and settings you have on USPS plugin. I currently don't have access to my code, but will need to debug this in order to find the appropriate responses.

Any updates on this? Is there any further info you need from me?

    Hi,

I'm working on it, but it needs to be tested and I need the time to write the new code. Once the new code is written, we'll put USPS through and update it on Jigoshop.

At the moment, your current plugin cannot just be patched up easily. It will require quite a bit of work.

    Thanks

What type of packaging is it assuming is being used? I have an item in my store that is .1 lbs, and 2 in x 1 inch x .5in but shipping to the UK comes up as $37! I guess this is because it is assuming a standard package size sent priority but not using a flat rate mailer. Really if you could just add in the flat rate mailers that the US Postal service has that would solve most of the problem and possibly easier to code (not that I would know).
