Product Importer Deluxe doesn't populate categories correctly
I have a problem of sorts with Dxe Product Importer (all bought and paid for) in that it doesn't quite import all my data leaving me with the issue of having to manually edit each product - having uploaded several hundred items this week...hmmm, a bit annoying.
Problem (I guess) is that items in my categories form a part of my menu and when I list those categories it doesn't recognise them - it's fine for every other options (tags, price etc etc).
Thinking I hadn't got the setting out correct and thinking outside the box I downloaded using the exporter module looked at what it gave me and replicated and uploaded.
Still refused to recognise the categories. The following is the how 'category' downloaded and how I replicated it for the upload.
Category
One-Sheet (USA)|1990-1999|Drama|Fantasy|Horror
Every conceived variable doesn't work so what I am forced to do is shove in something that will load and then manually edit each and every one eg
Category
Decade>1990-1999 (Using the pipe | etc doesn't work)
This leaves me with a separate category for 1990-1999 which DOES exist and ALSO adds in a category 'Decade' which does NOT exist (and I don't want to). So I then have to delete Decade and then manually add in the other categories.
Any advice?
Once again site is here: http://www.vintagemovieposters.com.au/
cheers
David

Hi David, regarding the Categories not linking to the Product correctly can you please send me your CSV file (michael - [email blocked]) which I'll review to confirm why this is happening. Thanks David.
Please note the Exporter doesn't support hierarchy based Categories, this will be included in a future Plugin update.

I am leaving this one open as the Dxe Product Importer does not allow hierarchical importing which when you consider most shop menus are hierarchical then it's still a pain. It odes however cut down time loading up but then one still has to manually get in and adjust.
eg if one sold clothes you might sell Shirts, but the variations required means you can bulk upload.
Shirts
- Mens
- Short Sleeve
- Polo
- Business
- Long Sleeve
- Polo
- Business
- Women
- Short Sleeve
- Long Sleeve
- Children
- Short Sleeve
- Long Sleeve
Unfortunately it cannot handle this
So a good product but as there is still a manual component when one uploads product it is not quite there yet.

I have a similar issue only it's adding the products into categories that aren't specified. I created all my categories manually in WP-admin then am trying to import to those categories. All the hierarchy is built already. So I tried something like this:
ski-doo|rev sleds
And the products on those lines ended up in Ski-doo and Mini Z categories. My csv didn't even mention the category Mini z, but somehow it imported products into it.
